At first, the answer seems obvious:
flybridge = more space.
But on a yacht, more isn’t necessarily better.
The Aventura 38 Sedan is a good example.
At 11.95 m long and 5.63 m wide, it’s a full-size power catamaran with three cabins — but without an upper helm station.
So why give up the extra deck?
🌬 Less windage
A lower superstructure presents less surface area to crosswinds — particularly useful when manoeuvring in a marina.
⚓️ Lower centre of gravity
There’s no heavy upper deck carrying another helm, furniture and equipment.
🌉 Lower overall height
That can mean fewer restrictions when navigating beneath bridges and along inland waterways.
🚶 Everything is on one level
Cockpit → saloon → helm.
No need to constantly move up and down stairs.
🌊 A completely different driving experience
Instead of sitting high above the water, you pilot the boat close to sea level from a protected saloon with panoramic visibility.
And this isn’t necessarily a slow cruising boat.
Aventura quotes a cruising speed of around 23 knots and a maximum speed of more than 35 knots, depending on propulsion.
So choosing between Sedan and Flybridge isn’t really choosing between “less” and “more”.
It’s choosing a philosophy.
Flybridge — more outdoor space and another level of life on board.
Sedan — lower, simpler and everything within easy reach.
