One of the most interesting developments in the yachting world: after more than 50 years of building bluewater monohulls, Oyster Yachts is entering the multihull market with the new Oyster C60.
The 60-foot sailing catamaran represents a major change for a shipyard whose name has been closely associated with luxury ocean-going monohulls.
Why a catamaran?
The answer reflects a wider change in the market. Owners increasingly want the combination of bluewater capability, stability, privacy and significantly more living space that a multihull can provide.
The C60 takes this philosophy seriously: approximately 19.4 metres in length, a beam of more than 9 metres and large interconnected indoor and outdoor living areas.
But perhaps the most interesting thing about the C60 isn’t the boat itself.
It’s what it represents.
When a company with such a strong monohull heritage decides that a catamaran belongs in its future, it says something about where the luxury cruising market is heading.
